Head of News - Ofsted

£54,748 + Benefits Central London

Raising standards and improving lives is what matters at Ofsted. At any one time more than a third of the population of England uses the services we inspect and regulate.

As our 2,700-strong organisation progresses, a talented Communications team supports our every move. Leading and developing our busy Media team, your managerial input and flair will build and protect the Ofsted brand every step of the way.

Reporting to the Head of Communications, you will lead on all aspects of proactive and reactive media relations and integrate them with our wider communications strategy. Responsible for media briefings, conferences and launches, budgets and contracts, you will forge effective working relationships with other government departments’ media teams, colleagues and the media. Providing trusted advice to our Chairman, Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector and senior Ofsted managers is vital to the role.

With experience of a similar role within a comparable organisation, you will effectively control Ofsted’s image in the press, media and on-line.

As someone who thrives on change and has both sharp news sense and managerial competence, you will ensure the robust processes, creativity and dynamism that our busy team needs. Strategy and planning is everything, and the rewards for success are immense. This can be a high pressure environment, so your ability to manage demands effectively and make a positive impact among colleagues will be crucial.
