Welcome to the Whitehall & Westminster World Civil Service Awards 2008. Over the last two years these awards have helped us to highlight and celebrate excellent examples of innovation, leadership, operational delivery, transformational government and joined up working. Your impressive achievement fed into creating Civil Service Live to showcase and spread best practice across the civil service.

I’m proud of the many successes that the awards have already helped to identify and I encourage you to submit all those projects and initiatives which you’ve worked hard to deliver and which you should rightly be very proud of. It is important that we continue to celebrate our achievements and I look forward to seeing this year’s nominations.

Sir Gus O’Donnell KCB
Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Home Civil Service
