Welcome to the Civil Service Diversity & Equality Awards 2008.

The civil service is delivering public services in a constantly changing environment and to an increasingly diverse range of users.

In order to meet these challenges and deliver better services, it is essential that those making and delivering policies represent the society in which we live.

These awards aim to identify and celebrate some of the many achievements I am proud to say that we have already made across government in diversity and equality.

I would encourage you to nominate examples of best practice and excellence in this area to recognise those who have inspired, innovated and worked hard to bring about change and deliver new initiatives for a civil service ready for the challenges of tomorrow.

Sir Gus O’Donnell KCB
Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Home Civil Service
